THE TYPE OF LASER THAT WILL BE USED

We will use a LightSheer DUET HIGH SPEED laser diode system, a safe, effective and high tech medical equipment. The latter is very well known for its efficacy, rapidity and is approved by Santé Canada and the FDA (US).

HOW THE LASER DIODE WORKS

The LightSheer DUET is a laser that produces a larger beam of highly concentrated light. The light emitted is well absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. During the procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, allowing the hair to absorb the light and heat up. As it heats up, the hair shaft and bulb are damaged which significantly impedes itsability to re-grow. And with the large spot siize, the process treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously, making the treatment much faster than traditional laser hair removal alternatives. The LightSheer DUET offers your physician two handpiece choices depending on your needs. The LightSheer High Speed handpiece uses breakthrough vacuum assisted technology in combination with diode laser light to allow rapid and comfortable treatment of large areas.

A person with light skin and dark hair is the ideal candidate for this type of treatment.

The diode laser does however permit treatment of darker skin tones as well.

The laser is ineffective on white or blond hair.

The hair cycle

Each hair develops in a cycle. In the active phase of the growth period, known as anagen, the hair is full of melanin. This phase is ideal for a diode laser. The Laser is very effective. During the resting phase, known as telogen, the old hair falls off to allow the growth of another root hair. The laser is at this point not effective. The treatment will give optimal results when done during the anagen phase. Since the cycles are not synchronized, an average of six to eight sessions each on the interval of a six week period will have to be done.

Before and after treatment. Waxing or plucking should not be done for a period of one month before the treatment. The region to be treated will have to be shaven the day or on the eve of the treatment.  Shaving between treatments is permitted. We recommend moisturizing and hydrating the treated regions, since the laser has a tendency to dry the skin out. In the weeks preceding the treatment, when exposing skin to the sun, it is recommended to use a sunscreen of SPF 60. The latter should be done for 10 days following the treatment as well in order to avoid apparition of dark marks.

Secondary Effects. Immediately after treatment, redness, inflammation and an itch can come about on the treated region. These should disappear and will rarely last for more than 24 to 48 hrs.

Pain. A tingling sensation that is endurable will be felt during the course of the treatment. If the region treated is sensitive, you may wish to use an anaesthetic cream.

More advices will be provided during your free consultation at the clinic.
